History repeating itself once again in 2011, the struggle between justice and speaking up for what is right,protesters join from different states to unite as one and fight for justice and freedom. The big question is did segregation and injustice ever end? The difference between the Civil rights movement and occupt wall street is that before it was mostly about racism and segregation towards the blacks but it was a peaceful campaign from the protestors back then and now occupy everything is speaking up about the many issues that surround our society today and its filled with many people from different backrounds angery but one thing that remains the same in both movements is the police brutality and how political powers chose to ignore it and enforce it.

The revolution in Birmingham and Police Brutality....

In the 1960's Martin Luther King Jr. , and other civil rights leaders aimed at turning the city's white power structure in Birmingham, Alabama. Cameras were in place to spread the truth throughout the country. During this time is where peaceful protests began and police brutality was at its peak, in two weeks the campaign expanded to marches.

How the Civil Rights Movement began

The civil rights movement took place in the 1960’s which was taking a stand against segregation and racism towards black, “separate but equal in actuality biased. Police brutality and discrimination from political figures wasn’t the only thing that the African Americans had to face along with riding buses for freedom and breaking barriers in the segregated education system.  TV had a big role in the civil rights movement to really be a movement because newspapers couldn’t give the viewers the visual stimulation that was needed in the nation that TV was able to do and bring forth what was really going on. It showed and exposed the injustice the racism that students, middle age men and women had to face.  The video above gives some more indepth history about the Civil rights Movement and how it all began.

WHO ARE THE MUCKRAKERS FROM HISTORY?

This video gives the viewers a little bio of some of the muckrakers who changed history including Ida Tarbell that was proclaimed "The Terror of the Truths.A modern day Joan of Arc and Queen of the Muckrakers". The author of "History of the Standard Oil Company". Hailing from Northwestern Pennsylvania,after recieving her BA and Master degrees, Tarbell wrote for Chautauguan magazine exposing businessmen such as John D. Rockefeller.Upton Sinclair the author of "The Jungle" who took a stand on the Meatpacking industry.

Racking the muck in history as well as today

Muckraking? When we hear that phrase it sounds similar to a sanitation job but it much like municipal corruption that was exposed by journalists using cartoons and writing, Muckraking is a word used for Investigative journalism. The word muckraker was coined by President Theodore Roosevelt during the second half of the nineteenth century. In Chapter six of “Mightier Than A Sword” by Roger Streitmatter, I read a few interesting chapters that correlate to one another as far as attacking the “Municipal Corruption” and “Muckraking: The golden age of reform”. Both of these chapters reveal political corruption and inequality which explores how bold journalists exposed the guilty politicians and businessmen. The heroic drama of how news media has formed American history .Today I wouldn’t say all journalists “rack the muck” because of mainstream media is fixed with false information but media has taken a new form not only by using social media such as Blogger and Face book but using physical strength and unifying voices to occupy the inequality that people have been suffering. The protests today are a form of muckraking , not only did  it take  a stand on the silence of corruption of Wall Street and the “1%” it broke the silence throughout the world.
